What is the K-12 Program?

USGIF provides an engaging K-12 program at the GEOINT Symposium for students local to the area to experience and explore the GEOINT tradecraft and Symposium. Through this program, students are able to open their minds to GEOINT and consider the field as a possible career opportunity.

Portable Planet
USGIF will display its interactive map of North America at the Symposium: USGIF’s Portable Planet is a 35-by-26 foot map is an educational tool that not only teaches K-8 students about maps and geography but also allows them to practice critical thinking, spatial analysis, and teamwork skills.

Exhibit Hall Booth Tour
Students will get to visit company booths, see demos, and try out their technology to learn about every facet of GEOINT.

Speakers’ Corner
A casual presentation where leaders in the GEOINT Community will talk about how they got to where they are today in their careers, why it’s important to be involved in STEM, and the challenges of having a career in STEM.
